Coldwell Banker Hosts “Be The Match Registry” Donor Drive

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

Chances are you know one of the over 10,000 people who have been affected each year with life threatening diseases such as leukemia or lymphoma for which a marrow or cord blood transplant could cure. Unfortunately, 70 percent of those patients do not have a matching donor in their family. Their best or only hope of a cure is a bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor or cord blood unit. That is where the “Be The Match Registry” comes in to help.

How easy is it to join the Registry? All it takes is a few minutes to fill out some forms, take a swab of your cheek and to commit your time. The ideal candidate is between the ages of 18-60 and in fairly good health. If you are interested in making a bigger commitment, there are plenty of opportunities to donate your time and of course monetary donations are always welcome.

To learn more about the Registry, the donation process, some of the misconceptions of the donation process, how to volunteer or make a monetary donation, visit www.BeTheMatch.org or contact Shelley Baker at 714.296.8479 or by e-mail at sbaker@nmdp.org.
