Saturday, November 21st, 2009

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I would like to thank all of those who have contributed to the great success Coldwell Banker experienced in 2009. From our wonderful staff, motivated agents and to you, our clients and readers of View magazine, I thank you all for your contributions to a successful 2009. While this year has not been without its serious challenges for the real estate industry, Coldwell Banker continues to be a real estate leader in Orange County, Southern California and beyond.

Part of being a leader is setting a good example. This year, Coldwell Banker offices in Orange County have been hosting food drives for various charities. While many of those programs have completed gathering food for Thanksgiving, it is not too late for you to donate food, your time or money to such wonderful charities as the Second Harvest Food Bank, Orange County Rescue Mission and the We Give Thanks Foundation.

Please take a moment this Thanksgiving to remember those less fortunate and give thanks for what you are fortunate to have.

Whether you can donate your time, food or money here is a list of various charities and their Web sites for you to consider.

Laguna Beach is the Place to Be for Fine Art

Friday, August 14th, 2009

Artists, aficionados and causal admirers come from all across the globe to enjoy the one-of-a-kind arts experience that put the quaint oceanside community of Laguna Beach on the map.

The natural beauty of Laguna Beach has attracted artists since the late 1800s and by the early 20th century, the town had already become known as an artists’ village. The Laguna Art Association was founded in 1918 and hosted the first Festival of the Arts in 1932. Scheduled to attract tourists from the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, the first Festival was a huge success and marked the beginning of what has since become an annual tradition. The original festival featured the debut of the “Living Pictures” performance, later named The Pageant of the Masters, in which costumed actors recreated still paintings in real life.

The Festival of the Arts is located at 650 Laguna Canyon Road and is open daily from 10:30am until 11:30pm. General admission is $7, or $4 for seniors and students, and allows unlimited access to the Festival throughout the season, which runs from July 5 to August 31. Real Estate Remains Hot in Orange County

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Summer may be halfway over already but the Orange County real estate market is still heating up. Home sales are rising across the country and here in the western states sales of new homes are twice the national average[1]. Local home prices may be lower than they were several years ago, but that is already beginning to turn around. In Orange County, the median home price is currently 14% higher than the bottom hit in January of this year[2]. Furthermore, while real estate sales are significantly up from a year ago, the percentage of sales made up of distressed properties is steadily decreasing month to month[3].

All of these indicators suggest that our local real estate market is well on the road to recovery. The Case-Shiller home price index predicts that property values in California will rise more than 5% during 2010, compared to a national average of 2%[4]. If the market continues its pace, by this time next year California will have the fastest growing real estate industry in the country. As home to some of the state’s most desirable communities, Orange County is sure to be leading the way as home sales rebound.

Now may be the best time to buy, before prices continue to rise and inventories diminishing. Don’t let opportunity pass you by. Visit www.OCViewOnline.com today and find your next home. A Coldwell Banker real estate professional will be happy to help you find the perfect place to call your own. Contact your local Coldwell Banker Orange County office today and find out what we can do to make your dreams come true.

Serious Summer Fun for the Dog Days

Friday, July 31st, 2009

The so-called “Dog Days” of summer take their name from the star Sirius, also known as the Dog Star due to its inclusion in the constellation Canis Major (that is, Big Dog.) This period, generally characterized by sweltering summer heat in many parts of the world, is historically when the star could be seen rising before or with the sun in the Northern Hemisphere. Although this is no longer true due to the slow precession of the equinoxes, the name remains. We in Southern California are fortunate enough to enjoy a rather moderate summer temperature compared to other parts of the country, but nonetheless, we’ve tracked down some dog friendly fun events to help you beat the heat this weekend.

The City of La Habra is hosting its 2nd Annual Dog Days of Summer festival on Saturday, August 1, from 9am to 4pm. Held at La Habra Heights Park (1885 N. Hacienda Road,) the event features canine demonstrations including dog agility, flyball, Frisbee, freestyle dancing and police dogs. Bring your dog and enter to win prizes in competitions including dog tricks, dog costumes, and dog look-a-like. Admission is free and offers fun for the whole family.

If you are looking to enjoy some more canine competition, stop by the Anaheim Petco (430 North Euclid Street) at 9am on Saturday morning. The 5th Annual Petco National Chihuahua Races are touring across the country to find the fastest Chihuahua in America. Arrive at 8am to register your own dog to participate. Prizes include Petco gift cards and, for regional winners, airfare and accommodations to attend the national championship races in New York. Find more details on the Petco website.

If you want to get in on the action rather than just watch, check out the Paws for Cause 5K Dog Run/Walk. The event also includes a 1K Kids Fun Run, dog costume contest, and dog demonstrations. Held on Sunday, August 2 at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley, the event kicks off with opening ceremonies at 7:45am and the 5K beginning at 8am. Registration opens at 6:30am, so show up early if you want to participate. Paws for Cause is a nonprofit organization supporting Chaplain Ministries who provide emotional and spiritual support for those enduring hardship or life crises, whether due to abuse, addiction, separation, sickness, disaster or even death. Visit pawsforcauseoc.org for more information.

Last Call for Summer Fun

Friday, July 24th, 2009
The official end of summer is still almost two months away, but this weekend is your last chance to enjoy two exciting Orange County activities.

For those who enjoy riding the waves – or just watching – the Hurley US Open of Surfing is a can’t miss event. Now in its fifteenth year, the US Open of Surfing remains one of the world’s most watched surfing events. The event began on July 15 and runs through the 26th. Surf events begin at 8am with the Festival Village opening at 9am on both Saturday and Sunday. Both days feature numerous surfing events throughout the morning and afternoon, and Saturday evening concludes with a variety of live music performances. For more details, visit http://www.usopenofsurfing.com.

If family fun is your thing, the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus offers whimsical entertainment for children of all ages. This year marks the debut of a new tour, Zing Zang Zoom, billed as a “thrill-filled, mind blowing circus spectacular.” The show features a combination of magic acts and traditional circus fare, including clowns, elephants, tigers and horses. Performances are held at 3:30pm and 7:30pm Saturday and 1:30pm and 5:30pm Sunday at the Honda Center in Anaheim. Visit http://www.hondacenter.com for venue details and http://www.ringling.com for more information about “the Greatest Show on Earth.”
